Description

The lodge located about 400 metres east-north-east of Broomford Manor dates from around 1871-3 and is likely designed by George Devey for Colonel Sir Robert White-Thompson. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed stone quoins and cills, and features a rendered upper section with a red brick cogged string-course. The front wing has applied sham timber-framing, and it is possible that the entire first floor was originally designed this way. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has gabled ends with moulded timber bargeboards. A large red brick axial stack is positioned at the roof junction, featuring diagonally set shafts at either end and moulded yellow clay pots.

The lodge has a T-shaped plan, with a long projecting front wing at the centre facing south and an open porch to the left. The central axial stack likely serves one room in each wing. A single-storey outshut was later added to the back of the rear cross-wing. The exterior is two storeys high. The main south front features a projecting gabled wing at the centre that jetties on the first floor, supported by small timber struts on stone corbels. Below the jetty is a stone canted bay window with a five-light ovolo-moulded wooden window, and above it, there is a similar two-light window in the gable. The gable has applied timber-framing and is weatherboarded at the apex. To the left, there is an open porch with a lean-to slate roof supported by timber posts, leading to a 19th-century plank door. The gable end of the rear cross-wing has one window on each floor, and the later single-storey outshut is located at the back (north). The interior was not inspected.
