Description

The barn and attached outbuilding, located immediately to the south-west of Lower Court in Meeth, is a Grade II listed structure. The barn likely dates from the late 18th century, while the attached building is from the 19th century. The barn features rendered cob walls, and the attached building has a rubble wall.

The barn has a threshing floor positioned to the right of the center, and at its left end, there is a separate section that was once used as a forge. An open-fronted single-storey building projects from the left-hand end of the barn, which may have served as either a cattle shelter or a cart/implement shed.

In terms of exterior features, the barn is a single storey with a loft above the left-hand end. It has an asymmetrical front with a cart entrance to the right of center, flanked by buttresses. To the left, there is an original wood-framed slit opening and a narrower door towards the left-hand end, which has an enlarged loading hatch above it. The open-fronted four-bay building that projects from the left-hand end of the barn is divided by wooden posts.

Inside the barn, there is a late 19th-century King post and raking strut roof, while the attached building has a rough A-frame roof with lapped curved collars.
