Description
The New Inn is an inn dating from around the mid-17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building features partly rendered rubble and cob walls, topped with a thatched roof that has gable ends. It includes three brick stacks at the main range and one at each end of the left-hand section. Originally, the main range on the right had a two-room plan with a central passage, with each room heated by an end stack. A wing projecting from the left-hand end is likely an 18th-century addition. The original partitions between the two rooms have been removed. At the left-hand end, there is a parallel range that was probably a separate cottage originally.
The exterior has two storeys and an asymmetrical three-window front, with the wing projecting at the left-hand end. The ground floor features small paned 20th-century casements, while the first floor has 19th-century two-light casements with Gothic tracery in the heads on the right and inner face of the wing, along with a 19th-century three-light casement to the left and center. A slight central projection contains a 20th-century plank door, with a similar door on the inner face of the wing. The attached former cottage, set back from the left-hand end, has a four-window front of 20th-century two-light casements, a central 20th-century gabled porch, and a plank door.
Inside, the only original feature visible is a 17th-century fireplace, which has a chamfered and hollow step-stopped wooden lintel and an oven on the right-hand side.
