Description

The North Tawton War Memorial is a approximately 6.5 meters tall obelisk located at the north-east end of the cemetery's central path. It features a tall grey granite obelisk that is square in shape, rising from the corniced cap of a pink granite plinth. The plinth has grey granite bracket-mouldings at each corner and sits on a grey granite base, which in turn rests on a two-stepped base made of Dartmoor granite, while the rest of the memorial is constructed from Aberdeen granite.

The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the plinth reads: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN/ THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918/ AND/ THE WORLD WAR 1939 - 1945/ (NAMES)/ ERECTED BY THE LATE/ FRANK HENSON GIBBINGS/ F.R.C.V.S." The names commemorated on the plinth are listed under the heading 1914 – 1918 on one face, while the fourth face states "1914 - 1918/ (NAMES)/ 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR/ EVERMORE.'/ NUMBER WHO SERVED 306/ NUMBER WHO DIED 52."

The obelisk is surrounded by seven low posts that support a chain. One of the posts is inscribed with "THE/ POST/ AND/ CHAINS/ GIVEN BY/ WOMEN'S/ SECTION/ BRITISH/ LEGION."
