Description
Nos. 42 and 44 on High Street are a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. They feature rendered cob walls and a gable-ended asbestos tile roof, with two brick gable end stacks. Each cottage has a two-room plan, with a larger heated room on the outside and stairs behind a smaller service room, adjoining at the center. The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical four-window front, featuring two windows for each cottage. The windows are late 19th or early 20th century four-light casements, each with a door at the center. No. 44 on the left has a 19th-century four-panel door, while No. 42 has a 20th-century panelled door beneath a gabled doorhood. Inside No. 42, there are narrow chamfered cross beams with run-out stops, and the fireplace has a rough wooden lintel.
