Description

Newbridge House is a house, reputedly formerly known as The Royal Oak inn, built around 1850. It features a later 19th-century outshut and some 20th-century alterations. The structure is made of granite and slatestone rubble with a painted front. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos, featuring gabled ends, while the outshut has an asbestos slate roof. The gable ends are constructed of rubble on the left side and brick on the right and rear, with a lateral stack.

The house has a single depth plan with an entrance located off-centre to the left. This leads into a passage that contains a dog-leg stair to the rear right, a small room to the left, and a large room to the right. The rear integral outshut, which originally served as a stable, runs the entire length of the house and has a loft above it. The building is three storeys high and has four windows arranged in a 3:1 spacing, with the doorway located at the centre of the three windows on the left. All windows are 12-pane sashes with cambered heads made of brick. The second window from the left features a panelled and glazed door with a cambered head.

The left gable end is blank, while the rear outshut includes a 2-light casement window with a ventilation slit above. The right gable end is also blank, and the outshut has a loft door that is accessed by a ramp leading to a slate platform supported by cast iron circular piers with leaf decoration. There is a 2-light casement window at the lower level of the outshut. The rear of the house has two doors, with window openings to the right and left of the left door, and a small opening under the eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
