Description

Tamar Valley Cottage is a house built in the early 19th century, with additions made in the mid-19th century and some alterations in the 20th century. The exterior is finished in painted rubble, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring gable ends and paired wooden brackets at the eaves, while the second rear wing retains its slates. The building showcases a picturesque Gothic style with gable end stacks that have cornices.

The cottage has a two-room layout with a central entrance and passage. To the right is the original rear service wing, and a second rear service wing has been added parallel to the first, also featuring a gable end stack. The overall shape of the cottage is an irregular L-plan. It is a single-storey structure with a central four-panelled door that has an overlight with glazing bars. On either side of the door are triangular-headed windows, each a two-light casement with six panes and Y-tracery, topped with a flat painted head. The gable ends on both sides have similar windows.

At the rear, there are two single-storey wings. The left wing, part of the original build, has a gable end window with Y-tracery and a two-light casement under the eaves on the outer side. There is a small single-storey outbuilding attached to the gable end featuring a two-pane light. The right wing has a two-span roof at a slightly lower level, with a door and a two-light casement in the gable end, along with a 20th-century glazed lean-to. The outer side of this wing has a two-light eight-pane casement under the eaves and a stack at the junction with the main front range. The interior has not been inspected.
