Description

Butterfly Cottage is likely an 18th-century house, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble, painted at the front and rendered on the right side, and has a bitumenised slate roof with gable ends. A gable end stack with a brick shaft is located on the left side, while a rear lateral stack with a rubble shaft is on the right. The original plan comprised two rooms; the room to the left was heated by the gable end stack, and the room to the right by the rear lateral stack. A central entrance leads into the house. A single-storey lean-to has been added to the left side, with a rubble stack and potentially serving as an original wash-house or scullery. The front elevation is symmetrical with three windows; all are 19th-century 12-pane sashes. A 20th-century half-glazed door is set within a 20th-century glazed and gabled porch. The interior has not been inspected.
