Description
This linhay, located approximately 8 meters south of Whiteleigh Barton, is probably from the 18th century. It is constructed of cob on stone rubble footings with some stone rubble patching and has a corrugated asbestos roof, which was formerly thatch. The linhay features a narrow design facing north towards Whiteleigh Barton and forms the southern side of an enclosed courtyard next to the main house.
The exterior consists of a 6-bay structure that was originally open-fronted but is now clad with weatherboarding. The crossbeams that support the hayloft floor are rough-finished, resting on upright timber posts at the front. Above these beams are cruck posts, and the rear features straight principals with pegged lap-jointed collars. Linhays that include cruck trusses are considered rare.
