Description

Fordhill Cottage is likely an 18th-century cottage, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are rubble, rendered to the first floor at the front and rear, and the roof is thatched, gabled at the right end and hipped at the left, with a small stone rubble stack at the gable end. Originally, it probably had a two-room plan, with a larger, heated room to the right. A two-story rear outshut was probably added in the 19th century, enlarged in the 20th century, and contributed to alterations in the internal room arrangement. The front elevation is asymmetrical, featuring a 20th-century two-light casement window on the first floor to the right, and a smaller, leaded-pane casement below. A 20th-century open-fronted thatched roof porch is situated to the left of centre, sheltering a 20th-century plank and glazed door. A two-story outshut runs along the rear wall. The interior was inaccessible during the time of the survey.
