Description

The Anchor Inn is an inn that likely dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and again in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble, with the upper half of the front covered in roughcast, and features slate roofs in two sections along with stone stacks, including one on the ridge to the right and a central stack with a tall rubble shaft rising from the eaves.

Originally, the building had a three-room layout with a through passage, but it has since been combined into a large single room. The lower end was likely to the left and heated by a gable end stack, while the hall to the right of the passage was heated by a front lateral stack. The inner room was probably unheated. In the early to mid-19th century, a gabled addition was made to the lower end, and there is a large 20th-century addition at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a window arrangement of 2:1:2. The double-hung sash windows are set in reveals, with five featuring small panes and glazing bars, while the other four have vertical glazing bars. There are two windows in the 19th-century portion to the left, each with gablets above. The ground floor has a central door opening with a panelled door.

Inside, the former hall contains a lateral stack with a fireplace that has a wooden bressumer.
