Description
No. 48 Fore Street is a house located on the north side of Fore Street in Hartland. It is probably from the late 17th century but has been altered in the 19th century. The building features rendered stone rubble walls that may include some cob, and it has a gable-ended asbestos slate roof with a rendered brick stack at the left end.
The house has a simple one-room plan with a direct entry and a rear addition that was likely added in the 19th or early 20th century. It is believed that the house originally included the adjoining property to the right, which was likely subdivided in the 19th century.
The exterior of the house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with one window. On the first floor, there is an early 19th-century paired 9-pane hornless sash window, while below it is a 20th-century pane sash window. To the right of the entrance is a 20th-century plank door. On the left end wall, there is a 20th-century replaced 16-pane sash window on the ground floor, which has a stone drip course above it.
The interior is not fully accessible, but a wany cross beam is visible on the ground floor.
