Description
Whites of Hartland is a house and shop located on the south side of Fore Street in Hartland, dating from the early 19th century. It features stucco stone rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof, with rendered brick stacks at both ends. The building has a two-room plan, likely with smaller rooms at the rear, and the front has probably always served as a shop with a central entrance.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical three-window front, featuring original sashes with 26:16:20 panes on the first floor. Below, there are large 20th-century double shop windows, which are flanked by pilasters that indicate the presence of a former 19th-century shop front. The central entrance has a 20th-century glazed door, and the windows are adorned with plaster quoined architraves. A moulded wooden eaves cornice completes the façade. The interior appears to have been altered in the 20th century.
