Description

Merrymeet is a house located on Dolton Church Street, dating from the early to mid-17th century, with possible earlier origins and an 18th-century addition. The building features rendered cob walls and a gable-ended thatch roof, along with three gable-end projecting rendered rubble stacks topped with brick shafts. The plan is L-shaped, with the original range likely consisting of two heated rooms, while the wing that projects from the right-hand room may be an 18th-century addition, possibly serving as a kitchen.

The house is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front, showcasing early 19th-century 16-pane sash windows. There are 20th-century part-glazed doors on both sides, with the right-hand door situated behind a glass lean-to porch. The projecting wing on the right features a late 19th-century 4-pane sash window on the first floor and a late 20th-century bow window below. All first-floor windows are adorned with gables in the thatch above, complemented by 19th-century decorative barge-boards and finials. Additionally, there is a 19th-century outbuilding extending from the end of the wing.

The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is expected to contain 17th-century features such as fireplaces and ceiling beams, along with possibly high-quality 19th-century joinery. The roof structure may also hold interest.
