4/24 Pair of Colwill Memorials about 5m - east of the Church of St James

GV II

Pair of memorials. Slate. Late C19. Northernmost signed W. Westaway, Bradworthy. Each memorial consists of a rectangular headstone in front of a coffin-shaped slate ledger stone with a smaller rectangular slate at the front of the ledger stone. Identical memorials, the northern headstone commemorates William Colwill, died 1868; scratch-moulded border, initials and date repeated on ledger and smaller slate. The southern memorial commerates Grace Colwill, died 1864. A local design , a group of similar memorials exists at Poundstock in Cornwall.
