Description

Ditchen Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is constructed of rendered cob and has a concrete tile roof with gabled ends and raised eaves. The lower end features a slate roof with a hipped end. The building has an axial stack that backs onto a through-passage, along with stacks at either end, all of which have rebuilt brick tops. The layout consists of three rooms and a through-passage, with outshuts at the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a five-window range, featuring late 19th century and 20th century two-light casements with glazing bars. There is a 20th century glazed door to the right of the centre leading to the through-passage. A large buttress, likely from the 19th or 20th century, is located on the front wall to the left of the doorway. Inside, the hall has a large fireplace with chamfered granite jambs and a chamfered wooden lintel. The kitchen at the lower end has a slightly chamfered wooden lintel over the fireplace in the end wall. The roof structure at the upper end has been entirely renewed, while the roof at the lower end has not been inspected.
