Description
East Flairs is a farmhouse that is currently unoccupied as of November 1987. It likely dates from the mid-17th century, though it may have earlier origins. The building features rendered cob and stone rubble walls, with a slate roof that has a gable at the right end and a hip at the left. There are two brick chimneys: one axial and one at the right gable end. The layout may have been altered in the 19th century, but it essentially consists of a three-room plan with a smaller central room. There appears to be an integral outbuilding at the left-hand end.
The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with four windows. These windows are early to mid-20th century two-light casements, except for two 19th-century small-paned casements on the first floor to the right. There is a 19th-century plank door to the right of the centre and another door leading to the outbuilding towards the left-hand end. Additionally, there is a lean-to 19th-century outbuilding against the left-hand end.
The interior is not accessible, but it is known to contain at least one open fireplace with a wooden lintel. Early features may have been hidden by 19th-century alterations. Without an internal inspection, the exact date of the building remains uncertain, but it retains a very traditional appearance.
