Description

Farmhouse, dating from around the mid-17th century, with a possible 18th-century addition and a 20th-century extension. The walls are of rendered cob and rubble, with a slate roof gabled at the right end and hipped to the left. There is a brick stack at the right gable and a 17th-century axial rubble stack with dripmoulds and a dripcourse. The plan may be either a 2- or 3-room-and-through-passage layout, and the room to the left may be the 18th-century addition. The hall to the left of the passage is heated by a fireplace backing onto the passage, and a 20th-century extension is at the rear. The front has an asymmetrical 3-window arrangement with mid-to-late 20th-century 1, 2, and 3-light casements. An open-fronted porch with a 20th-century plank door is to the right of the centre. The rear elevation features a 20th-century outshot to the left and a wing to the right. Inside the hall is a large open fireplace with a chamfered and straight-cut stopped wooden lintel, and an oven. A chamfered ceiling beam has long ogee stops. The right-hand room has a 20th-century chimneypiece and a ceiling beam with a narrow chamfer, which appears to be a later addition. The straight principal rafters are likely not original.
