Description

Madge's Cottage, Vine Cottage, and The Old School Cottage are a row of three cottages located in Dolton, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with 19th-century additions. They feature plastered cob walls and a thatched roof that is gabled at the right end and hipped at the left. There is a brick axial stack at the right gable end and a rear lateral stack.

The two outer cottages have a two-room plan, while the central cottage has a one-room plan. There are 19th-century rear outshuts and a single-storey, one-room 19th-century addition at the end of The Old School Cottage, likely the former school room.

The cottages are two storeys high. Madge's Cottage on the left has an asymmetrical two-window front with small-paned 19th-century or early 20th-century two-light casements. It features a 20th-century part-glazed door to the left and a lean-to 19th-century porch to the right, which has a similar door. Vine Cottage in the centre has an asymmetrical one-window front with 20th-century three-light casements and a lean-to porch to the right with a 20th-century part-glazed door. The Old School Cottage on the right has a regular two-window front with 19th-century two-light casements on the left and early 19th-century 12-pane sashes on the right. It has a central lean-to porch with an early 19th-century six-panel door behind it, and a lower slate-roofed addition at the right-hand end. All first-floor windows have small gables in the thatch above. The interiors were inaccessible at the time of the survey.
