Description
The lime kiln located to the west of the beach access at Woolfardisworthy, Bucks Mills, is a double lime kiln dating from the 19th century. It is constructed from rubble and features two kilns, each with a roughly cylindrical front that is connected by a flat segmental pointed arch, which is now blocked. There is also a second similar arch to the right that remains open, showcasing an inner rough stone vault and a flat arch leading to the hearth. The kilns are built into the cliff face and have a flat upper surface, which is partially occupied by an unsuitable 20th-century structure. The entire structure is set on a stone sett platform supported by a retaining wall that rises from the back of the beach. Additionally, another kiln is situated to the east of the beach access, and both kilns are significant physical remnants that reflect the historical lime production activity along this stretch of the north Devon coast.
