Description
The lime kiln, built in the 19th century, is located to the east of the beach access at Woolfardisworthy, Bucks Mills. Constructed from rubble, this large kiln is positioned directly off the rock at the back of the beach and features a steep access ramp that descends from the cliff to the west. The kiln has a roughly square plan and rises up to 6 meters from the rock to a flat grassed surface that is partly enclosed by a parapet wall. At the upper platform level, there is a thin stone course that projects externally. The kiln has a segmental-headed opening facing west and two openings on its south face. On the east side, a very steep ramp descends from the adjoining cliff face and includes a large plain arched throughway. Another kiln is situated to the west of the beach access, and together, these structures serve as important physical reminders of the historical activity along this north Devon coast.
