Description
Northcott Barton is a farmhouse located in Ashreigney, dating from the early 17th century, with possible earlier origins and a 19th-century addition. The building features rendered rubble and cob walls beneath a gable-ended slate roof, with a rendered rubble front lateral stack. The layout consists of a two-room-and-through-passage plan, with the lower end on the right. The hall, located to the left, is heated by the front lateral stack, which has an integral hall bay beside it. There is a long wing, likely from the 19th century, at the back of the left-hand end that incorporates an outbuilding.
The exterior is two storeys high, with an asymmetrical front that has five windows, which are 20th-century casements. The doorway is approximately at the center of the facade, with the projecting hall bay and lateral stack to its left. The long wing at the back has an external flight of steps. Inside, the hall features a moulded ceiling beam, and there may be other interesting features such as early fireplaces and roof timbers, although access was very limited during the survey.
