Description
Dartmoor Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with a 19th-century addition and 20th-century alterations. It features rendered cob walls and a thatched roof that is gabled at the left end and hipped at the right. There are two brick stacks: one axial and one at the left gable end.
The original layout consists of a three-room plan with a baffle entry in front of the axial stack, which serves the central and right-hand rooms. There is also an original entrance in the gable end of the right-hand room. The left-hand room is heated by the gable-end stack, while the right-hand room is now used for storage rather than as part of the living space. A 19th-century outbuilding has been added at the right-hand end.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring three windows, which are 20th-century two-light casements. There is a slight projection to the right of centre in front of the axial stack, which has a plank door. To the left of centre, there is a late 20th-century gabled porch with a part-glazed door. A lean-to structure is present against the right-hand end, covered by a catslide roof and with a door at the front. On the rear elevation, there is a 17th-century two-light chamfered wooden mullion window located to the left of centre on the first floor.
Inside, the fireplace in the left-hand room features a narrow-chamfered wooden lintel. The right-hand room has an open fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel and a 17th-century chamfered wooden doorframe in the end wall.
