Description

Ridge's Farm is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century but was altered around the early 20th century. The building is plastered and features a gable-ended thatch roof, with a hipped corrugated iron roof on the adjoining barn. There are two brick stacks, one axial and one at the right gable end.

The farmhouse has a three-room plan, though it does not include the typical through-passage. The two end rooms are heated, with the left-hand room heated by an axial stack. The central service room is small and has an axial passage in front of it, providing access between the two end rooms. A 20th-century staircase has been added between the right-hand and central rooms. An 18th-century barn has been added to the left-hand end of the house.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical four-window front. On the first floor, there are two metal frame casements to the right of centre and left, along with two early 19th-century horizontal sliding 12-pane sashes. The ground floor features two late 19th-century six-pane sashes and a late 20th-century two-light casement without glazing bars to the left. There is a 20th-century gabled porch to the right of centre with a part-glazed door. The barn at the left-hand end has a cart entrance on the front wall.

Inside, there is a rough ceiling beam in the left-hand room, and its open fireplace was likely rebuilt in the 19th century with brick jambs. A late 18th-century or early 19th-century corner cupboard with a panelled door can also be found. The feet of insubstantial straight principal rafters are visible on the first floor.
