Description
Higher Lana Farmhouse, including an adjoining stable, likely has origins from the 17th century. It features whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings and a gabled corrugated asbestos roof, which was formerly thatched. There are stone stacks at both ends of the main range. The original layout may have consisted of a two-room house, with a hall on the left and a two-storey gabled projection at the front, along with a smaller heated room to the right of a stair hall. A rear outshut is probably an addition from the 18th or 19th century. The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front, with an approximately central two-storey gabled projection. The front door is located to the right of the projection, with a sloping corrugated asbestos roof supported by a stone cheek. The windows are three-light casements; the first-floor bay windows date to the early 19th century and have six panes per light, while the others have three panes per light and were likely reglazed in the early 20th century. The interior has not been inspected. The adjoining stable, which has a loft above, is located at the left end and features one stable entrance beneath a loft loading door, along with two windows to the right that have timber lintels. The stable includes pegged roof trusses that are halved at the apex.
