Description

East Panson Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating from the 17th century, likely extended in the 18th century. It is constructed of cob on stone rubble footings, with a whitewashed and rendered exterior, and a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatched. The building features a gabled left end and a hipped right end, along with a large projecting stone stack at the left end and an axial stack with a brick shaft.

The original layout may have consisted of two rooms with a through passage, where the stack of a hall or kitchen backed onto the passage, and an unheated service room beyond it. In a later phase, the service room was extended and heated at the left end, creating a kitchen beyond the passage and converting the former hall into a parlour. There is also an unheated rear left wing, likely from the same period, which may have served as a dairy with accommodation above.

A 20th-century stair has been added in the passage, replacing an earlier stair that existed in the rear left wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front, with a 20th-century glazed porch leading into the through passage on the left. The windows are late 19th-century and 20th-century two- and three-light casements with glazing bars. The rear door of the passage is sheltered by a sloping slated roof supported by a stone wall to the left. Inside, there are 20th-century grates that are said to conceal earlier features, and the left-hand room is reported to have large joists hidden behind plaster. The roof features pegged trusses.
