Description

East Druxton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1700. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof that is gabled at both ends, with three additional gables at the rear, which are slate-hung. The house is a single build, 1.5 rooms deep, with two principal rooms at the front on either side of a central passage; the parlour is to the left and the kitchen to the right. The half rooms at the rear correspond to the three rear gables and include a central stair hall flanked by unheated service rooms. The building stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical five-window front, with a string course at first floor level, a central front door, and regular fenestration. While the embrasures are original, the glazing has been replaced with late 20th-century plastic two-light casements with glazing bars, and the front door has also been renewed.

Inside, the original plan remains entirely intact. The right side of the ground floor features one wide two-panel door from 1700 and a stair with heavy stick balusters, also dating from around 1700. Most of the joinery is from the 19th century, and the original chimney pieces have been replaced. The farmhouse has an unusually complete plan that combines a central passage with symmetry, which is rare for farmhouses from this period in the region. The three rear gables are a particularly attractive feature of the house.
