Description

The Post House is a disused cottage located approximately 2 metres southeast of Bellevue in Beaford. It is likely from the mid to late 18th century. The building features a ground floor made of painted stone rubble and a first floor rendered in cob, topped with a gable-ended asbestos-slate roof. There is an adjoining outbuilding constructed from painted stone rubble with a hipped corrugated iron roof.

The cottage has a one-room plan with an integral end stack on the right, which is now truncated, and a staircase in the left-hand rear corner. It may have originally had a two-room layout, with a smaller unheated room to the left, though the partition wall has since been removed. The structure stands two storeys tall, with the outbuilding being only one storey.

On the exterior, the front is symmetrically fenestrated, featuring two small 19th-century two-light wooden casements on the first floor and another similar casement on the ground floor to the right. To the left, there is a 19th-century boarded door framed in beaded wood. A wide battered buttress is located on the ground floor to the left of the door. The adjoining outbuilding has a 19th-century four-pane window to the left and a pair of large boarded double doors to the right.

The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted that the ground-floor room contains an open fireplace on the right, with the staircase in the left-hand rear corner and joists spanning from front to back.
