Description
Tibbetts is a coastguard lookout building located on Lundy Island, constructed in 1909 by the Admiralty. It is now used as holiday accommodation. The building is made of dressed granite, featuring granite quoins and a low parapet with a cornice. It likely has a flat roof that is hidden behind the parapet. A central axial stack is present, with a dressed granite shaft topped by a tall glazed pot.
The layout includes a living room on the right (north) and a bedroom and kitchen in the shallower part on the left (south), with the central axial stack positioned between them. The kitchen, located in the front left room, was probably originally part of an integral outhouse-store.
The exterior is a single storey, with the east front featuring three windows, one of which is located in the splay of a projection on the right. The windows are 12-pane sashes. There is a doorway to the left of center with a plank door, and a wide doorway from the former outhouse on the left has been converted into a window. All openings have granite lintels. The rear (west) elevation mirrors the east elevation but lacks doorways. It includes a 2-light sash on the north end and a single light sash on the south end, both with 12 panes.
Inside, the walls and ceilings are lined with matchboarding. The living room contains a fireplace with a bracketed shelf, and to its left are pegs and lockers that were likely used for signalling equipment. There are also cupboards in the corner of the living room and lockers in the bedroom.
