Description

Elm Cottage is a small house dating from around the early 18th century, with a 19th-century addition. It has walls of rendered cob and a gable-ended thatched roof. There are two gable-end stacks: the left-hand one is of projecting rendered rubble with a brick shaft, and the right-hand stack is entirely brick.

The original plan was for two rooms, each with a fireplace, although the fireplace in the left-hand room was inserted later. A 19th-century outshut was added along the rear wall.

The front has an asymmetrical façade with three windows on the front. These are later 20th-century casements without glazing bars. A 20th-century gabled porch, with a stable-type door, is located to the left of centre. An outshut runs along the rear wall.

Inside, the right-hand room retains a rough ceiling beam and an open fireplace with a rough wooden lintel, alongside a cloam oven with a door.
