Description
Darracott Court, located on Irsha Street in Appledore West, consists of Nos 2, 3, 4, and 6, which are probably early 17th century buildings with some alterations. They are two storeys high and constructed of stucco with a colourwashed finish and a grouted slate roof.
No 2 features three windows on the first floor, including a blank centre panel above a plain entrance. The windows are sash style with exposed frames and glazing bars. Inside, there is a massive hewn beam with a stopped wide chamfer, substantial roof principals, and a winding staircase that wraps around a central newel. The upper part of the newel tapers to an octagon and has a carved junction with a moulded rail.
No 3 has a sash window on each floor and a blank panel on the first floor, along with a plain entrance and a massive beam in the interior.
No 4 dates from the 18th or early 19th century and has been altered. It is three storeys tall and has two sash windows on the upper floors with exposed frames and glazing bars. The interior features a full-height winding stair.
No 6 is two storeys with an attic and has two windows with exposed frames, now featuring centre glazing bars only. It has a plain entrance with a fanlight and incorporates the former No 5.
All the listed buildings on Irsha Street form a cohesive group.
