Description

The gate piers and adjoining walls, located approximately 20 metres to the north-west of the Methodist Chapel in Winkleigh, date from the later 19th century. They are constructed from red sandstone ashlar, with rubble used for the adjoining walls. The square gate piers feature castellated and moulded capitals with chamfered edges. Each pier has decorative buttresses on its faces, which are set back from the road, complemented by a curved section of wall on each side that projects back towards the road. The ornate wrought iron gates complete the structure. These piers originally formed the entrance to the former Vicarage, now known as Nine Beeches.
