Description
The former smithy cartshed, located approximately 20 metres southeast of Woolleigh Barton, is now used as garages. It likely dates from the late 19th century and is constructed of uncoursed stone rubble and roughly squared and coursed stone, topped with a gable-ended Welsh-slate roof. The building has a long range that runs in a north-west to south-east direction and is attached to the front garden wall of Woolleigh Barton.
The exterior features two pairs of large sliding boarded garage doors on the left, which have replaced either late 19th-century doors or an originally open front. On the right, there is a 19th-century boarded door with wrought-iron strap hinges and a wooden lintel. The right-hand gable end has a small window, while a large window is located at the rear.
Inside, the old forge in the right-hand room contains very large bellows suspended from a wooden frame above, along with a stone cross wall. The roof, dating from the late 19th century, is supported by bolted collar trusses.
