Description

Kingscott House is a house built in the early to mid-19th century, with a late 19th-century service extension. It is constructed from plastered stone rubble, featuring stone rubble or brick stacks with plastered chimney shafts, and has a thatched roof with a slate roof on the rear block. The house has a double depth plan and faces northeast, consisting of a front and back room with an axial stack between them, situated on either side of a central entrance hall and main stair. The rear service block projects at a right angle from the back of the right end.

The main house is two storeys tall with attics, while the single-storey extension is on the left end. The exterior of the main block is symmetrical with a three-window front surrounding a central front doorway, which has a 19th-century six-pane door behind a late 19th-century thatch-roofed gabled porch featuring cusped bargeboards. On either side of the doorway are late 19th-century canted bay windows with four-pane sashes. The first-floor outer windows are blind, while the center window has a 16-pane sash. The tall roof is half-hipped at both ends, and the end walls have two-window fronts of 16-pane sashes and arch-headed dormers with Y-tracery. The late 19th-century single-storey extension on the left end has a flat roof and contains lancet windows. The service block features unusual six-pane sashes with only vertical glazing bars. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of this survey.
