Description
Abbey Lodge at St Scholastica's Abbey is a lodge built around 1862, likely designed by architect George Goldie, who was associated with the Abbey. It is situated on a sloping site and constructed from limestone rubble with rough ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a slate roof that features stacks on both the left and right sides. The building has a two-unit plan and includes a later 19th-century two-storey left wing.
The exterior of the lodge is two storeys high with a three-window range. The main block has stone-mullioned two-light sash windows with 4/4 panes, while the left wing features timber-framed windows. The left-hand range has a prominent forward-facing gable with a wooden finial and a chamfered plinth. The right-hand corners are chamfered beneath the eaves, and the first-floor window is a half-dormer, adorned with a fretted bargeboard and finial at the gable. A hipped-roofed verandah covers the ground-floor window and door at the angle of the recessed right-hand range, and there is a wooden paling fence at the front. The flat-roofed left wing has banded quoins leading to a rectangular bay. The interior has not been inspected. Abbey Lodge is included as part of Goldie's overall plan for St Scholastica's Abbey.
