Description
The Old Lifeboat House in Teignmouth is a lifeboat house built in 1862. It features random rubble construction with red brick relieving arches on the front and rear walls, topped by a slate roof. The exterior has a 20th-century pitched roof with wide overhanging eaves on the right, creating an outshut supported by timber posts with struts. On the left, there is a similar outshut that has been filled in with random rubblestone, now serving as a shop at the front and other facilities at the rear. The front gable includes a glazed oculus with four radial glazing bars, while the rear has a small canted timber casement window supported by a moulded timber bracket. Inside, the timber-lined roof structure features strutted moulded king posts, and the walls are clad in vertical boarding. This building is an early example of a lifeboat house that has largely retained its original condition.
