Description

This is a row of three cottages located 50 metres south-west of the Post Office in Kennford. They are likely a remodelling of an earlier house from the 18th century or early 19th century and appeared to be disused at the time of the survey in 1987. The cottages are constructed of cob on stone footings, whitewashed and rendered on all sides except for the rear elevation, and feature a thatched roof with gabled ends. There are three brick stacks: one at the left end, one axial stack, and one lateral stack at the rear right.

The plan of the cottages is not entirely clear due to lack of access to the interior during the survey, but it is described as an L shape with a single depth main range that has three front doors facing the street, along with a rear right wing that has a lower roofline and a rear lean-to, likely from the 19th century, which has a tiled and corrugated iron roof. The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has four windows arranged regularly. The three front doors lead to three-light 19th-century small pane timber casements, except for two 20th-century two-light timber replacements. The right return, which is the wing, features one first-floor two-light small pane casement and two ground floor casements. The cottages present an attractive and unspoiled range within the village.
