Description
Vine Cottage is a farmhouse, likely dating to the 18th century or earlier, that was remodelled in the early 19th century into two cottages before being combined into a single house. The building is constructed of cob and has a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable end and to the rear right wing. Originally a 3-room plan with end stacks and an entrance to the right of the hall, it also includes a rear lateral stack. In the 19th century, a two-storey rear outshut was added to the left, along with a single-storey rear right wing.
The exterior presents a four-window range. The upper windows are early 19th-century 6-over-6-pane sash windows set within the eaves. Later 20th-century windows are located on the ground floor, along with two doors sheltered by 19th-century penticed porches supported by walls. Blank walls at the outer ends suggest the presence of former open fires. The rear outshut features a two-light casement window with partly leaded old glass. The rear right wing has 19th-century two-light casement windows with small panes of glass. A tall external axial stack is located to the rear, left of centre. Interior features from the earlier building may remain, although they are likely obscured by later alterations.
