Description
A pair of houses with shops, dating from the mid-19th century, located in Teignmouth. The buildings are constructed of painted stucco with freestone coping to the parapet and sills, and have a slate roof with a stack on the party wall. They are arranged over three storeys and consist of two bays. Number 10 features late 19th-century cast-iron colonnettes with ornate openwork tops to the windows, a moulded cornice to the fascia, and a centrally positioned canted bay with plate-glass sashes on the upper floors. The lintel band on the right side of the first floor is missing. Numbers 10A and 10B, forming a single building, have similar upper floors. To the right is a slightly set-back entrance bay with a mid-19th-century doorcase featuring reeded pilasters, an entablature, three-pane sidelights, and a large overlight composed of two rectangular panes connected by diagonal glazing bars to the corners. The windows are 20th-century replacements. The interiors have not been inspected. The properties form a prominent group with numbers 11 and 12 in Northumberland Place.
