Description

The Northumbrian Public House is a mid-19th century shop and public house, forming one building located in Teignmouth. The exterior is painted stucco with a painted freestone coping to the parapet, a parapet band, rusticated quoins, a plinth, and sills. The building has a double-depth plan with rear extensions.

The building is three storeys high, with a 3-window range and rusticated quoins to the centre. The upper floors have original 6/6-pane sash windows, each with 8 small margin panes. Number 11 on the left has 20th-century doors to the left and right, with a moulded doorcase to the left featuring plinths, pilasters, and an entablature; a similar doorcase to the right has a 20th-century door. The section to the right has a 20th-century, larger margin-pane window. The rear extension includes a 20th-century window. Number 12 on the right has a moulded cornice to the shop fascia, a 20th-century door to the left, and a 20th-century bow window to the right. One 6/6-pane sash window is present on the right return. A two-storey rear wing displays 19th and 20th-century windows.

The interior was not inspected. The building forms a prominent group of mid-19th century properties with numbers 10, 10A, and 10B in Northumberland Place.
