Description
No. 1 Saw Mill Cottages, including the adjoining outbuilding to the north, is an estate cottage dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is built from grey limestone rubble with red brick dressings and has a slate roof that is gabled at both ends, featuring end stacks. The cottage has a single depth, two-room plan with a central entrance, and the weatherboarded outbuilding is attached to the left end.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front. It features a central plank front door topped by a rectangular fanlight with small panes. On either side of the door are 19th-century two-light small-pane casements with brick jambs and segmental brick arches, and above the door is another two-light small-pane window. The adjoining outbuilding has a red tiled roof. The interior is plain. This cottage forms an attractive group with Nos. 2 and 3 Saw Mill Cottages.
