Description

No. 42 Fore Street is a house from the early 19th century located on the west side of Fore Street in Chudleigh. The first floor and the bows are roughcast, while the ground floor has had its render removed, revealing local grey limestone rubble. The house features a slate roof that is gabled at both ends, with end stacks positioned at the front and rear of the ridge. It has a double depth, four-room plan, likely with a central passage and two main front rooms. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front. There are three steps leading up to a six-panel front door, which is set in deep panelled reveals and flanked by moulded pilasters. The two-storey flanking bows contain 16-pane sash windows. Additionally, there is a room above the passage to the right, situated between No. 42 and No. 43.
