Description

The building at Ringmore is a mansion, dating back to around 1880, with additions made around 1930. It is constructed of red sandstone rubble with a slate roof and is built in the Scottish Baronial style. The original plan was square, with extensions added to the left. The south-facing front, which is visible from the road, is castellated. It features a two-storey, three-light mullioned and transomed leaded window on the left and three-light stone-mullioned windows to each floor on the right. A three-stage tower with a conical roof, dating from around 1930, is situated at the right-hand corner. Attached to the left is a pointed arch leading to a small courtyard and a single-storey range with a hipped roof, also dating from around 1930. The right return front has a 20th-century door and two-light windows. The left return front has a castellated parapet and a variety of dormers, towers, and leaded bay windows. Much of the exterior and decorative elements have been coated with red roughcast rendering. The former list description notes the presence of a 1635 sundial on the south elevation. The interior has not been inspected. Despite later alterations, the building is considered a well-executed example of 19th-century Baronial architecture.
