Description

Gardener's Cottage, located about 150 meters north of Whiteway House, is an estate cottage built around 1877. It is constructed from local grey limestone rubble with brick dressings and features a slate roof with crested ridge tiles, gabled at both ends. The cottage has a lateral stone stack at the left end with a brick shaft, and another stack with a brick shaft at the right end.

This Gothic Revival cottage has an asymmetrical layout consisting of two adjoining gabled blocks arranged at right angles to form an L shape, with an entrance porch situated in the angle. It stands two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical window arrangement, with a 1:1 ratio. The left block is gabled at the front, while the right block is set back and includes a lean-to timber porch with pierced decoration. The front door, located in the right block, features a rounded arch made of moulded bricks.

The left block has ornamental barge boards, and there is a gabled dormer positioned to the right of center. The cottage is adorned with large two and three-light transomed windows that have triangular heads. The interior has not been inspected, but the cottage remains an unspoiled example of 19th-century Gothic architecture.
