Description

The bridge over Warfleet Creek Road in Dartmouth is a Grade II listed structure built in 1863, funded by Sir Henry P Seale and others. It carries the embanked Castle Road across Warfleet Creek Road and is constructed from coursed blocks of roughly-squared limestone. The bridge features a single tall round-headed arch, and on the river side (north-east), there is a plaque commemorating its erection in 1863 by HP Seale, with contributions from GE Bidder, A Etherington, and Captain Arkwright RN. The road is embanked and slopes down slightly to the south-east. The outer walls on the north-east side have pilaster buttresses that reach up to a projecting drip course at road level, while there are no buttresses on the opposite side. Above this, there is a parapet with plain weathered coping. A flight of stone steps descends from the top of the bridge on the south-west side down to Warfleet Creek Road.
