Description
The description covers a riverside quay with a lime kiln, likely built in the early to mid-19th century. Constructed from local stone rubble, the quay is approximately 15 to 20 meters long and is positioned on the rocky edge of Warfleet Creek, terraced into the hillside below Castle Road. At the west end of the quay, there is a lime kiln designed to be loaded from a platform just below the level of Castle Road. The quay features two large arched openings topped with a timber lintel and a low relieving arch, although one of these openings has been replaced with concrete. There are deep alcoves behind the openings that diminish to small blocked raking holes. This well-preserved small quay and lime kiln are part of the industrial area located on lower ground at the head of the creek, near the Dartmouth Pottery on Warfleet Creek Road.
