Description
No. 25 is a late 18th and early 19th-century house, originally built as a single dwelling and later subdivided into flats. It is situated in Southtown, Dartmouth. The house is constructed of local stone rubble with a plastered front that is lightly blocked out to resemble ashlar. Some slate-hanging is visible on the rear, and the end stacks have rendered brick chimneyshafts topped with old chimney pots. The roof is slate-covered and parallel to the street, with hipped ends.
The house has a symmetrical three-bay front and three storeys. A central, round-headed doorway is recessed by three stone steps and has a 20th-century part-glazed replacement door, above which is a plain fanlight. Flanking the doorway are paired 19th-century twelve-pane sash windows. The first floor features two large bow windows, with tripartite sashes and front horns for 16-pane windows, projecting cornices and flat roofs. The second floor has paired horned four-pane sashes, with a single sash window in the centre. A timber modillion eaves cornice runs along the top. The rear of the house has 20th-century casement windows and projecting bays. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest.
