Description
This is a large manor house, later used as a hotel and now converted into flats. It dates to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of stone rubble with a stuccoed front, and has brick end stacks with plastered chimneyshafts, and a slate roof.
The plan is double-depth with two rooms wide, and features a central entrance hall. The exterior is three storeys with attics and has a symmetrical five-window front. The stucco front is lightly blocked out to resemble ashlar. A central doorway, reached by four stone steps, contains an original six-panel door, now partly glazed, with a stucco Tuscan doorcase featuring engaged columns to the entablature. Either side of the doorway are paired twelve-pane sash windows. A plat band runs along the first floor level. The first floor has late 19th/early 20th-century windows; a central horned sash without glazing bars is flanked by large canted bays containing similar sash windows with panelled bases and hipped roofs. The second floor has five small horned four-pane sashes. A good modillion eaves cornice runs around the top of the building. The parapet has been reduced to accommodate three large 20th-century dormer windows (with further dormers to the rear). The roof is gabled.
The interior was not inspected, but it is noted to contain 19th-century joinery and cornicing.
