Description
No. 11 Bayards Cove is a house that likely dates from the early to mid 19th century, although it may have an earlier core. The building features mixed construction, with the side and back walls made of plastered stone rubble, and the front wall constructed of slate-hung timber framing above the first floor. It has end stacks with brick chimney shafts and some old chimney pots, topped with a slate roof.
The house has a T-shaped plan, with a front block that is two rooms wide and runs parallel to the quay. It stands three storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window front. The first floor has 20th-century horned sash windows, while the ground floor features 19th-century horned four-pane sashes with horizontal glazing bars and shutters. The central doorway has a basket arch and contains a recessed part-glazed six-panel door topped by a fanlight with a central vertical glazing bar. The ground floor is plastered and has stucco quoins at each end, with alternate blocks displaying vermiculated rustication. The first floor is slate-hung, and the building has plain eaves beneath a parallel roof that is gable-ended to the left. A central front-gabled dormer features a pair of small horned four-pane sashes and shaped bargeboards.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have a 19th-century stick-baluster staircase.
