Description
Port View House is a house, now divided into flats, likely built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations from the 20th century. The building features mixed construction, with the side and back walls made of stone rubble and the front wall constructed of roughcast timber-framing. It has brick and stone rubble end stacks, as well as plastered brick chimney shafts topped with old pots, and is covered by a slate roof.
The house has a plan that is two rooms wide and three or four rooms deep, and it stands four storeys tall. The front facade has two windows, featuring replacement horned sashes without glazing bars, arranged in pairs on the ground and first floors. The ground floor is recessed and supported by iron columns, with a central doorway that contains the original panelled door. There is a Phoenix insurance plaque on the first floor. Stone steps on the right side provide access to the upper-floor flats through 20th-century doors, while most of the windows in this area are from the 19th century, including 3/6- and 6/3-pane sashes. The roof has plain eaves and is hipped. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
